15th Sunday of Ordinary Time

This weekend, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish welcomes Deacon Larry Hart, Regional Director for the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America, Inc. Deacon Hart is located in Jacksonville, Florida and works out of San Jose Parish. He will speak to us about the mission work of Maryknoll and the Catholic Church. Maryknoll is headquartered in Westchester County, New York and is involved in missionary work particularly in East Asia, China, Japan, Korea, Latin America and Africa.

Deacon Hart’s address coincides with today’s Gospel of St. Mark with the passage where Jesus is sending His disciples out into the world; “two by two” giving them “authority over unclean spirits preaching the “repentance for the forgiveness of sins”.  Jesus acknowledges that this task is not only an important one, but one that will place them in dangerous situations as their message might not always be received in the spirit that it was given:

“Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave. Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you, leave there and shake the dust off your feet in testimony against them.” (Mk. 6: 10ff)

The Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America has been a witness to Jesus Christ from over 100 years, many suffering and experiencing death in order to follow the command from Jesus that we listen to this day. Let us never forget that we, as Christians, have that same command to be witnesses to the world. Maryknoll reminds each of us that around the world, 24 hours a day, the message of Jesus Christ is being proclaimed: Jesus is Lord!

God Bless
