Christ the King Reflection

Published on Nov 23rd, 2011 by Austin Keith | 0

Today’s Feast of Christ the King brings our Church Year to a close. As heard as it is to believe the Advent Season begins just next week with the New Roman Missal. We have journeyed with St. Matthew’s Gospel and listened to it’s account of Jesus’ role in salvation history. Written for a people at a time where the Temple had a previously been destroyed; a purple now heavily influenced by Roman occupation and governmental control. Remember, by this time period, St. Paul’s missionary travels have brought the message of Jesus to Gentiles of many and varied backgrounds. Because of this, the author of St. Matthew’s Gospel is speaking to a group of believers not just of Jewish background but all those seeking redemption and freedom to worship one true God represented in the man and Savior, Jesus the King.

Let us celebrate this journey that comes to a close and face this “New Year” with anticipation and humility know how God truly loves each one of us. Today, ¬†however, let us with one heart rejoice in this Feast of Jesus Christ the King!

May God Bless You,
Father John
