Faith Formation Commission

The Faith Formation Program at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church strives to provide for both children and adults opportunities to understand more fully their Catholic faith and, in doing so, prepare them to celebrate the Sacraments and the Liturgy of the Church more deeply.  We wish to share the love and mercy of God in order that we may inspire all parishioners to continue the mission of Jesus Christ on earth, which is to spread His Good News to all those we encounter in our daily lives.

Parish Religious Education Program

Children’s Classes:  All children from 1st through 8th grade who are not attending Catholic school should be attending PREP (Parish Religious Education Program) classes.  Sacrament classes for children to receive Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation begin each September.  All sacrament classes are family based, as parents are the most important adults and most important Christians in their children’s lives.  Preparation for sacraments is a journey of the heart involving reflection, prayer, and faith sharing with parents and other candidates.  Students must have attended PREP or Catholic School in the last year to register for sacrament classes.

Adult Confirmation: Classes are offered to prepare adults (18 & up) to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation at one of the two annual services presided over by the Bishop.  This process is for adults who have been baptized and received their First Communion in the Catholic Church.

Catechist Volunteers:  Among its many ministries, the Church holds the role of catechist in high esteem.  The General Directory for Catechesis notes, “The Lord Jesus invites men and women, in a special way, to follow him, teacher and former of disciples. This personal call of Jesus Christ and its relationship to him are the true moving forces of catechetical activity” (no. 231).  We cannot provide religious education classes if we do not have teachers, aides and substitutes.  What’s required? One must have a love of Church and love of children, as well as meet requirements for background screening.  We will provide training and resources to make this step easy for all.

Rite of Christian Initiation For Adults (RCIA)

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process through which adults become full, active and participating members of the Catholic Church.  This is for any adult who has not yet been baptized, as well as adults who are baptized in other faith traditions, and those baptized Catholics who did not have an opportunity to receive sacraments in the Catholic Church.  The RCIA process originates out of the oldest, early traditions of the Catholic Church and is concerned with the total formation of a Catholic Christian.  RCIA is a non-pressured approach that allows for each person to “listen” and to “respond” to God’s call in his or her life.  St. Elizabeth Ann Seton is committed to following the rites of the RCIA and available year-round to meet with people who may want to pursue the possibility of becoming Catholic and receiving sacraments.
