Saturday of the First Week of Lent

During this Year of Faith, the USCCB (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) have encouraged Catholics in the US to renew ourselves and to commit to special times of prayer for issues we hold most dear. The USCCB is calling all Catholics to prayer for life, marriage, and religious liberty.  This call to prayer has five components:

–        Monthly Eucharistic Holy Hours in cathedrals and parishes

–        Daily Rosary by families and individuals

–        Special Prayers of the Faithful at Mass

–        Fasting and abstinence from meat on Fridays (Outside of Lent as well)

–        A Fortnight for Freedom in June/July 2013

In light of this we have begun by having a Holy Hour on January 25, 2013 for Reparation and Healing in the 40th Anniversary Year of Roe v. Wade.  We will be continuing this journey with Eucharistic Holy Hours For Life, Marriage, and Liberty. Please keep an eye on the bulletin for more information.  On Thursday the 28th Our Holy Father will officially resign as Bishop of Rome and as our Holy Father at 8:oopm Rome time / 2:00 pm eastern.  In light of this historic event we will have a Holy Hour from 1-2:00 pm in which we will pray for Pope Benedict XVI and conclude with a prayer to the Holy Spirit to guide the College of Cardinals as they prepare for the Conclave to elect a new Pope.  Please come and join us if you can!
