Looking for a fun way to keep your children engaged in the faith this summer? Look no further than St. Elizabeth Ann Seton’s annual Vacation Bible School. VBS offers an exciting and educational opportunity for children in preschool through the sixth grade to learn more about their faith this summer.
Vacation Bible School (VBS) will run Monday through Friday, July 22-26, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The VBS program includes teachings on the sacraments and saints, with the Catholic faith beautifully interwoven into the program.
What’s more, youth in grades 7 and up are encouraged to volunteer. As students learn so much more about Jesus as the “living water,” volunteers learn right along with them.
Volunteers are needed for various tasks, from a song and dance assistant to the science experiment station to set up and take down. Volunteers are also needed to lead a group of kids to the stations. This year, VBS will also include a new preschool program.
“The teens really run the vast majority of the activities,” says Jeremy Vest, Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry. “It’s really great to have them.”
When Jeremy first started in his role, he was nervous about VBS, and now it has become one of his favorite ministries. It has such an impact on the kids.
“We don’t always realize our impact in the moment,” he says. “It’s often much later that we learn we had an impact. It’s so fulfilling.”
Jeremy enjoys everything about VBS, from the Imagination Station to all the silly songs.
“My favorite part is the community that is built,” he says. “It’s so neat how everyone comes together to make this happen.”
The week of VBS ends with a Mass, to which all families are invited. It’s always a beautiful way to end a great week.
“We want VBS to show the kids that church can be fun,” Jeremy says. “If all they leave with is that they talked about Jesus and had fun, that is a win. As a church, that’s our job.”
Jeremy is expecting about 90 children and youth to participate in this year’s program. There are about 50 volunteers who help during the week.
VBS registration begins on April 15. This year, there will be a multi-child discount for families. Please reach out if this is cost-prohibitive — no family is turned away. Get your child signed up and consider getting involved as a volunteer.
