Deacon Tom passed away on Friday, November 15, 2024, after a courageous battle with stomach cancer. He is survived by his devoted wife, Cita; his son, Thomas Alayu (Cris Kellyn); his daughter, Phoebe Ballard (Kyler); his beloved grandchildren, Katy Trinity Alayu, Elijah Thomas Alayu, Christina Angelica Alayu, and Mary Ella Ballard; and his siblings Edgardo, Joventino, Andromeda, Mauro Jorge, Maria Aurora, Jacob, Jethro, Joshua, and Maria Ana.
Born in the Philippines on May 15, 1951, Deacon Tom immigrated to the United States in 1984. He was ordained to the permanent diaconate on May 19, 2007, and began his ministry at Queen of Martyrs Church in Forest Hill, NY, where he served from 2007 to 2008. He continued his dedicated service at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Palm Coast, FL, until his passing. From 2009 to 2013, he served as chaplain for the Apostleship of the Sea Chapter at Mayport, FL, offering compassionate ministry and spiritual support to seafarers. In addition, Deacon Tom actively participated in enriching faith-based programs, including Marriage Encounter, Life in the Spirit Seminar, and Kerygma ministry where he helped individuals deepen their relationship with Christ and strengthen their commitment to Christian living.
Deacon Tom was a man of unwavering faith, profound compassion, and selfless dedication to serving others. His gentle warmth, spiritual depth, and steadfast commitment left an indelible mark on all who were blessed to know him. His legacy of love and service will be treasured by his family, friends, and parish community. May he find eternal rest in the embrace of the Lord he so faithfully served.
The funeral Mass for Deacon Perlito "Tom" Alayu, 73, of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Palm Coast, FL, will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 22, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Viewing will precede the funeral from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the church’s Memorial Room.
A wake service will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at Clymer Funeral Home, 39 Old Kings Rd N. in Palm Coast, FL 32137. Viewing hours will be held at the funeral home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM that evening.
